St. John’s University is a private Catholic institution founded in 1870, with a total undergraduate enrollment of over 15,000 students. Recently, they have experienced a significant increase in foreign applications and enrollment from Bangladesh, India, Spain, Jamaica and additional countries, according to Amy Arcario, Associate Director of International Admission.

Poor customer service from several NACES members
“We always accepted evaluations from any NACES member,” said Arcario. Most of the evaluations they received came from one of the largest foreign credential providers, but they were unsatisfied. They received negative feedback from students that this provider was too expensive, and negative feedback about turnaround times, which in some cases were as long as 2-3 months. They started looking for an alternative to promote to their students. “We wanted better customer service for us and the students that are applying,” said Arcario. “If the student has a poor experience that also reflects poorly on us.”
TEC’S best-in-class customer service
In 2018, St. John’s University selected Spantran: TEC as their preferred provider. The biggest factor was TEC’s superior customer service. “Hands-on, responsive, professional, intelligent, friendly—all of these things,” said Arcario. Another factor was TEC’s ability to verify documents and identify fraudulent documents. “We’ve seen more fraudulent documents over the past year and the verifications have become more important,” said Amber Steiger, Director of Graduate Admission.

TEC has also been of service beyond just preparing the evaluations. “I’ll ask TEC if I have a specific question about whether an evaluation is needed,” said Arcario. “They’ll ask the specialist on the team who works with that country or territory and always provide speedy and correct information.”
